Two Holulaloa men were arrested for allegedly robbing a hitchhiker.

Robert Maihui Deleon, 43, and Sloan Kalau Deleon, 22, were taken into custody Friday and face several charges each after law enforcement tracked them down on Mamalahoa Highway.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, was near the Banyan Mart at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when the alleged robbery occurred, according to Chris Loos, spokeswoman for the Hawaii Police Department. The pair are accused of stealing a cellphone, lighter and cash from the the victim by threatening him with an edged instrument, Loos said.

Robert Deleon was arrested and charged with phone ripping, harassment, three counts of violating a protective order.

After police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, they found 3.6 grams of meth, 7.2 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. As a result Robert Deleon was also charged with meth trafficking, promoting a detrimental drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sloan Deleon was arrested for robbery as well as two counts of violating probation and two counts of contempt of court.

Both men, whose relationship wasn’t known Monday, had their bonds set at $50,000 and are due in court for their preliminary hearings at 1:30 p.m. today.
